Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at SarahHelenEpp@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Yes, I offer 15 minute phone consultations to help you decide whether we’re a good fit.  During the call you are welcome to ask questions about the therapeutic process, my approach, location, or share anything that is on your mind regarding your presenting situation, concern, or challenge.

SHE Psychotherapy specializes in individual therapy.

In person sessions are $175 per session, virtual sessions are $170. I have a limited number of sliding scale spaces for individuals in need.

Family or joint sessions are $200 per hour for two persons, an additional fee of $25 applies for each additional participant.

Dyadic sessions include two participants such as a child and parent or family members.

If you’d like to invite a partner, family member, or support person, please discuss this in advance. Sessions with two participants are offered at a set rate of $200; an additional fee of $25 applies for each additional participant.

Additional consent and confidentiality considerations will be reviewed prior to the session to support a respectful and well-held space for everyone involved.

Cash, e-transfer, and credit cards are acceptable forms of payment.

Clients are encouraged to pay via e-transfer to sarahhelenepp@gmail.com

Clients are required to have a credit card on file.

Many extended health plans reimburse sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist or a Registered Social Worker. Please check with your provider to confirm your coverage.

A minimum of 48 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Cancellations made with 48 hours or more notice will not be charged.

Cancellations made with less than 48 hours’ notice will be charged a flat fee of $80. Missed appointments or no-shows will be charged the full session fee.

Where appropriate, a virtual or telephone session may be offered in place of a late cancellation or missed in-person appointment, depending on clinical suitability and availability.

This policy supports consistent access to care and respects the time reserved for each client.

Weather Policy (In-Person Sessions)

In the event of inclement weather or unsafe travel conditions, in-person sessions will be moved to a virtual or telephone format.

To maintain consistency and continuity of care, sessions will not be cancelled due to weather. If needed, I will reach out to confirm the format change, or you are welcome to contact me to arrange this.

Please note:

Exceptions: This policy does not apply in the following circumstances:

  • When participating from home would be unsafe, inappropriate, or not confidential (e.g., situations involving family violence, coercion, or unsafe living conditions)
  • When virtual or telephone sessions are not clinically appropriate, including for children under the age of 10 or individuals with limited mental capacity

This approach helps us stay connected and supported, while also respecting individual safety and circumstances.

The first session is an opportunity for introductions, reviewing consent and limits of confidentiality, as well as welcoming you to the space.

You will be asked questions to get to know you better and understand what brings you to therapy at this time. The first session or two of therapy are opportunities to  understand your life, including past and present challenges, supports, and coping style. You are welcome to share as much or as little as you are comfortable sharing.

Towards the end of the session we will work towards clarifying your hopes and goals for therapy, and we can discuss which therapeutic approach may be the most beneficial to you.

Questions are always welcomed.

A therapy session typically lasts for 50 minutes to an 1 hour.  At times 90 minutes  sessions can be arranged upon request.

There is no set or mandatory amount of therapeutic sessions to be completed.

To be completely transparent it is impossible to predict the exact amount of sessions required from the onset of therapy.   The amount of sessions can range based on the therapeutic goal and complexity of the presenting situation.

At times clients can set a predetermined amount of sessions such as 8-12 sessions; research suggests a predetermined end date can have a positive impact on the treatment process and enhance goal focus.  However, other people choose to not establish an exact amount at the onset of therapy and continue to book as needed.

It is always my aim and goal to be working towards supporting clients to reach a state and sense of wellbeing where they no longer feel a need for ongoing therapy.

Clients always reserve the right to withdraw from therapy/ therapeutic services at any time.

I offer in person therapy in Newmarket and Barrie, Ontario. Virtual sessions are available to residents of Ontario.  Clients can choose to meet in person, online or both if preferred.

Barrie availability: Mondays from noon-8:30pm

Newmarket availability: Tuesdays and Wednesdays noon-8:30pm

Virtual Sessions: day & evenings availability on Mondays, Thursdays and alternating Fridays

Sometimes I may suggest small practices, reflections, or resources to help you continue your growth between sessions. Homework or action items are never mandatory and vary depending on the person and their therapeutic goals.

I do not “assign” homework to everyone, it needs to be relevant to the goal and most importantly agreed to by the individual.
